SEMI-FINALS

The team handicap semi-finals and finals were held at Warden Park School on Thursday 17th November 2011.

Gangsters with Nooch Staplehurst, Andy Steel and Jim Edwell played top of the premier league Hang Em High with Michael Bridger, Martyn Sims and Steve Chambers.

The handicappers got it right, with Hang Em High holding on to defeat Gangsters to win by 11 points over 18 sets. Martyn Sims was the match winner for Hang Em High dropping only 8 points out of a possible 44.

The other semi-final saw The X Men with John Bridger, Phil Sayers and Tim Grant playing against Mad Batters with Annabel Bridger (14), Kate Bridger (12) and Kate Cheer (10). Kate Cheer is currently the U12 England no.1.

The very first match first saw father and daughter John and Annabel Bridger against each other with each needing to win.

Annabel played great attacking table tennis defeating her father in straight sets bearing in mind John is currently 5th in the division one averages with Annabel 21st.

This match set the tone of the semi final and with Kate Cheer also with wins and Kate Bridger doing her share of winning points ‘The X Men’ never recovered.

Mad Batters went on to win by a massive 41 points.

FINAL

In the final Mad Batters with Annabel Bridger, Kate Bridger and Kate Cheer were up against the team at the top of the premier Hang Em High made up of the formidable Martyn Sims, Steve Chambers and Michael Bridger.

Again the star of the match was Annabel Bridger who with attacking play and against all odds defeated her brother Michael in one of the two sets. With Kate Cheer and Kate Bridger doing their share of collecting points, the result was always going to be close.

The end result saw Mad Batters defeating Hang Em High by 18 points. This proved the point that ‘Girl Power’ and attacking styles will win the day. Or, if you are the underdog then to win you must attack.

Thanks go out to Handicap Secretary Kevin Deacon along with assistance by Lyle Cyster and Mel Sims.
